Mimmo Calopresti ha realizzato il film visionando e selezionando centinaia di testimonianze in lingua italiana custodite negli archivi della Shoah Foundation Insitute for Visual History and Education, straordinari filmati di archivio e fotografie tratte dagli album personali dei sopravvissuti. Neuf histoires qui permettent de retracer les périodes significatives de cette expérience hallucinante : la promulgation des lois raciales, les vaines tentatives de fuite, la déportation, la séparation des familles, la miraculeuse survie, la libération avec l'arrivée des soldats alliés... Ces mots, que nous n'écoutons pas pour la première fois, nous racontent pourtant avec une extraordinaire vivacité et une lucidité frappante les différents aspects de ces histoires, à la fois intimes et universelles, presque toujours tragiques et cruelles. Des témoignages qui, par moments, vont jusqu'à dévoiler des sentiments de douceur et qui s'éclairent d'une gaieté inattendue. Mimmo Calopresti a réalisé ce film en visionnant et en choisissant des témoignages parmi les centaines existant en langue italienne dans les archives du USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education, auxquels il a ajouté films d'archives et photographies issues d'albums personnels des survivants. Nine stories through which we follow the most significant events of this harrowing experience: the enactment of the racial laws in Italy, the futile escape attempts, the deportation, the separation from other family members, the miraculous survival in Auschwitz, and liberation with the arrival of the allied soldiers. Words that we may not be hearing for the first time, but which narrate the many aspects of these tragic accounts: from the most intimate and personal to the more notorious and cruel. These individuals, through their testimonies, are not afraid to reveal feelings of tenderness and compassion, as well as moments of happiness. Mimmo Calopresti made this film by viewing and selecting from the hundreds of Italian testimonies collected in the archives of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education, as well as archival footage and photographs taken from the personal photo albums of the survivors.
